Middlesbrough-based commercial window, door and curtain walling fabrication and installation company Polar reports that in its last financial year it has successfully completed 195 school projects, every one of which was completed on time.
That is quite an achievement for a ‘local’ company that was established in 1983 by three business partners, and which now has a turnover of £4.6 million, 63 employees and 12 teams of experienced installation engineers. Polar has built a strong reputation in the North East among architects, building contractors and local authorities for high quality work and a professional yet friendly approach.
Typical comments from the schools that have undergone refurbishment work, where in many cases the Polar team was working on site during term time, include that from head teacher Roy Pallas, of Burley Oaks Primary School near Otley:
“I cannot praise too highly the people who fitted our new windows and doors. They were tidy, neat and always worked around our requirements. We were very impressed with the quality of the product and of the fitting.”
Another positive response came from Cavendish Primary School in Bradford, where Theresa Blakeborough commented:
“They did an excellent job, working between April and August and were on time and hassle-free, even when asked to wait to start an area until it was cleared or until someone else had completed their own work. In fact, Polar were one of the best contractors we’ve ever had on site.”
Working successfully in schools represents a very special challenge for installation companies such as Polar with the safety and security of pupils and staff of paramount importance at all times.
In October 2004 Part III of the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) came into effect. Polar have provided some useful tips to help you comply.
