Polar News, Winter 2006 (Working Progress)

Not much has happened in the processing department this year. “not much has happened” I hear you gasp!
We had two large Kawneer jobs running simultaneously in Eldon Lane and Murton Schools, this was somewhat of a steep learning curve for everyone concerned. Processing had to struggle through the KaluCad software to produce workable production sheets for the factory but to Michael Boyce's credit we managed.
Then later in the year Michael Boyce defected to the dark side of the estimating department to assist Jon Kay. Brett moved to CAD. If Michael grows a goatee beard and cycles into work like Brett I'll start to worry. Brian Dunmore joined the processing department and immediately settled in very well; with his sound fabrication knowledge and experience he is an accomplished and respected factory supervisor. Brian's office move seemed to be a natural progression for his career as he demonstrates a sound understanding of the core Polar products and good common sense.

We had a very busy summer program with Burly Oaks and Cavendish schools for Bradford Council: a new customer with a large program of works still to do, which is ours for the taking. This is how impressed Bradford Council are with such a professional outfit as Polar again down to the hard work done by everyone.

In processing we are currently working on two more very large contracts which will see us into the new year: in Rowlands Gill and Harlow Green, all Kawneer consisting of 451pt screens 600 series windows and 1202 curtain wall with some challenging frame designs for fabrication to make. It's been somewhat of a race against time pulling together associated products ready to fit for the above contracts due to site issues and late approvals.

With the introduction of Dave Jacobs into the processing team we are in a much stronger position to manage goods inward, one of Dave's main responsibilities is to chase up suppliers and confirm delivery dates. He will work very closely with installation and will dedicate most of his time making sure items are available to fit.
So after all that I think things are progressing forward nicely which is to all our benefits.
