This year has seen Polar rubbing shoulders with the likes of Laing O'Rourke, Wates Construction, and Sir Robert McAlpine which has brought us into some the more prestigious contracts in the North East. The completion of Murton & Eldon Primary School for Wates has proven successful. Currently we are mid way through Rowland's Gill & Harlow Green Primary Schools for Sir Robert McAlpine and are now beginning to prove we are more than capable of competing with the “big boys” in the glazing industry.
The integration of the Kawneer range has opened up doors to Polar notably with Laing O'Rourke & Sir Roberts McAlpine.
As ever we steamed through another extremely busy summer programme. We installed a record amount of product complete and ontime, albeit a few weekends and late nights for the installers & fabricators. Once again credit has to be given to all involved from sales, survey, planning fabrication and installation for their hard work.
The progress of the installation department is there for all to see from the survey/CAD who have improved rapidly over the past 12 months to the excellent planning and co-ordination form Neil & Andy. The restructure of the department has seen Andy Platts promoted to Installation Manager, Andy Willis to Installation Supervisor and Mick Norris to Site Supervisor for the larger contracts.
In addition Alexa Barlow has joined us most recently to help with the planning & coordination. These changes are key to the growth of the company. This year we have welcomed more new faces to Polar and in the New Year one or two more are expected when your cooperation to help the new people settle will be very much appreciated.
During 2007 we intend to maintain our progress in the construction industry. The first contract for 2007 is already underway “Bridlington Spa”. This is defiantly one to look out for. This historic theatre is very much the “talk of the town” over in the East Riding and Polar will have a big part in the eventual look of the building, with 4 large facetted hall windows made from curtain wall.
Next year all installers will be expected to hold CSCS cards. The people who automatically qualify should be receiving their cards shortly. Others who have sat the test will receive their cards in due course. This scheme is essential to ensure only people who have a certain level of knowledge in the industry can work on site's throughout the UK.
H&S AT WORK
This year has seen a vast improvement and effort from all, but please remember! You are your own safety officer, so please stop and think before you or others do anything that you believe or know could be unsafe. If you are unsure or would like advice speak to either myself, Neil or Andy. We are here to help.
Thank you for your continual support
Nick Reay, Commercial Manager
